Story

This is the story of a little sea slug, Woli, who dreamed of seeing beyond the sea.
She and all her sea-dwelling kin lived in peace in the kingdom of Tethnea, situated deep, deep in the abyss. No humans had ever discovered this place, and very few believed it actually existed. It was an underwater kingdom, with many technologies that surpassed those of humans. The kingdom was rich in treasure, but something was even more valuable.
The spirit of the water, Selene, a magnificent dragon of sparkling red, had reigned over this kingdom for generations. She was once a powerful and terrifying dragon, who laid waste to civilisations and their inhabitants without any mercy. The humans of that time had managed to cast a curse upon her, condemning her to live in the deepest depths of the ocean, where her flames could never again be used... This was her punishment for all the lives she had taken. As well as being the ruler, she also had a far more important role. She granted sailors who perished at sea the chance to be reborn in a new form and join her people. But she granted this privilege only to those she deemed worthy. This work was a form of atonement for her past deeds. A tiny sea slug, Woli was a very close friend of Selene’s, even though they were of completely different sizes. They loved to chat, laugh and spend time together. Woli liked to give her opinion whenever a sailor’s soul had just been harvested, to help decide whether or not it was a good idea to give a particular person a second chance. One day, Selene decided to reward Woli for her loyalty, as her life was drawing to a close. It should be noted that Woli, in her previous life, had a keen interest in the human world. She loved collecting objects and relics from the surface, keeping them and wondering what certain things might be used for. And that is why Selene decided to reincarnate her in a partially human form. Woli became a beautiful woman, with long black hair and coral-shaped horns on her head. Her early days in this new form were quite difficult, especially when you go from being a few centimetres tall to a person of 1.65 metres... It completely changes your view of the world. The only condition Selene imposed on Woli was that she must never go to the surface to meet humans. She kept repeating that they were cruel, faithless, and greedy for conquest and riches.

Woli was overcome by curiosity and defied what she had been forbidden to do. She came to the surface for the first time and encountered a boat full of sailors. She approached them and struck up a conversation, even though the humans were wondering,
‘Who is she? What is she?’
Woli wanted to learn more about humans, and that is exactly what they did. They told her about their great cities with very high buildings , the food they ate, and the technologies they had mastered. So delighted by a conversation so rich in knowledge, Woli spoke of Tethnea, the kingdom where she lived. And without realizing it, she began to stir the humans’ curiosity and envy, fueling their desire for conquest. Days and weeks passed, and one day, the humans reached the deepest depths of the abyss, using their technology known as ‘submarines’, and sent divers and machines to plunder the kingdom. Their vessels, meanwhile, fired missiles and did not hesitate to shoot at any creature approaching them. It was then that Woli realised she had made a grave mistake, and that she should have listened to Queen Selene.
‘It’s all my fault...’
thought Woli, as everyone fell one by one. Selene, though shaken by the situation, did not lose her focus and decided to make one final choice. She approached Woli and asked:
"Do you want to redeem yourself? Do you want to avenge all those who have just fallen in battle? Then so be it. Fight for all of us.
-Why don’t you defend us yourself?’
asked Woli.
-I cannot use my powers because of the curse the humans cast upon me long ago. But you can use them.’
Selene concentrated her powers in the palms of her hands, forming a large, shimmering blue sphere that quickly took the shape of a dazzling jewel the color of the sea.
“Woli, I give you my powers, my name, and my life.”
As Selene’s figure gradually faded away, the gem moved closer to Woli and settled in the centre of her chest, embedding itself within her. Her appearance began to change: streaks of red appeared in her hair, along with horns and a dragon’s tail. Not to mention her eyes, which had previously been as blue as the ocean, now turned orange and sparkled like the embers of a flame. Something else made itself felt.
A feeling, deep inside her, right in her heart.
Revenge.
Woli didn’t hesitate for a moment to test her new powers. She propelled herself with a flick of her tail towards a group of sailors, whom she knocked down with a single swipe of her arm, using her long claws. She attacked a submarine, catching a missile that had just been fired, and sending it back to its sender. Woli felt strong, brimming with power. Perhaps a little too much so. She was seething from within; it was a sensation that was both satisfying and painful. She began to take down the humans, each in a different way, and they quickly retreated. But she did not let them get away, and pursued them to the very end, to fight directly on the ship that was in command from the surface. The ship sank very quickly, and the sailors of the crew along with it. The cycle of life and death of the sea applied even in this situation, and once back in the realm of Tethnea, Woli received all the souls of the sailors, who were just waiting to be reincarnated, or forgotten. To take her revenge one last time, she transformed all the souls into 'Snacks', small creatures resembling axolotls, but with a delicious slice of fish, like sushi, on their backs. They are a fragile species, with many joint problems due to their anatomy, and it is legal to devour them. One must eat well...

The accession to the throne
└───── °∘❉∘° ─────┘
Woli took the name ‘Selene’ and thus called herself ‘Woli Selene’. She took her place on the throne, whilst thanking the former queen’s spirit one last time. This new life as a ruler was likely to be complicated, given that Woli had no experience in governing a kingdom. Fortunately, Mélusine, a sea dragon, was there to support her. He had always been the queen’s servant and advisor, even though he never left the castle. With her new powers, Woli carried out experiments to create shells for sea creatures and place souls within them. The task proved far more difficult than she had imagined. Turning a soul into a Snack was really child’s play! But the rest, no... One day, she tried to create a dragon, a bit like Mélusine and her, and that’s how the experiment... both worked and didn’t work at the same time. She created a dragon, mixing physical elements of her own appearance with those of Mélusine. But this one... Had the IQ of an oyster. Or rather, lower than that of an oyster. Desperate, Woli called him ‘Didier’ because it suited him. Even though he was as dumb as a brick and didn’t even recognise his own name, she kept him by her side all the same, despite the fact that Mélusine didn’t like him.
